Big Bunny

Suitable for anyone using a Data Projector / IWB and upper Junior / lower Senior classes:

__Big Bunny__

7 episodes of an animated flash story about a big bunny and a song:

http://www.big-bunny.com

Ideas for lessons:

Episode 1:

i) Play the story once and ask ss to remember what happens

ii) In pairs, ask them to either a) write the story of the children and the big bunny or b) the story the bunny tells of the dog

ii) Play the story again and ask the ss to take notes

ii) Ss add details to their stories, then they swap their stories with another pair, who add what they know about the story

iv) Finally, play the story one more time and ask them to

v) Take in the stories, correct them and give them out next class

vi) Ask the ss to rewrite them at home and to illustrate them (if they want)

vii) Display the stories on the wall

Episode 2: Vegetables

i) Ask the ss to watch and listen to the story

ii) In pairs, they write down as many nouns as possible featured in the story

iii) Play the story again and ask ss to add to the list

iv) Write the nouns on the board (help them with the ones they don’t know)

v) Together, retell the story

vi) Ask ss to write a version of the story at home

Episode 3: Suzy

No plan for this one – thought it best to stay clear of ‘selling soul to the devil story’

Episode 4:Easter

No plan for this one either

Episode 5: Red

No plan for this one

Episode 6: Tie

No plan for this one

Episode 7: Stuffing

i) ss watch the story

ii) There is another ‘story within a story’ here: ‘The story of the man who bought a jacket’

Ask the students to remember everything about the story the Bunny tells the children, and, in groups, try to remember as much as possible

iii) ss watch the story again and make notes

iv) students write the story on A3 cards, which are pinned on the wall. Ss read them all and vote on the story that they think is nearest the original

v) give ss the real story and compare versions

‘The story of the man who bought a jacket’

There was once a man who bought a jacket on sale

The sales lady said the jacket was very nice, but never to use the left pocket

One very cold day he forgot this advice and found that the jacket had one hungry pocket

He returned the jacket and bought a sweater and one green glove

Extension: A stronger group can also retell the story of the children and the big bunny

__ALTERNATIVE PLAN for any of the episodes:__

i) Give out pictures* of the story and ask the ss in groups/pairs to put them in the correct order

ii) In their groups, ask them to write a sentence for each picture that tells a story

iii) Ss read out the stories and together the class decides which is the most probable

iv) Play the actual story and decide who was nearest

  • take screenshots of the animated story by and paste into Word. Crop the images and print them out to use in class
